I'm looking for a good PC speaker system that has decent Bass, mid- and high-tones and preferably 2.1 or 5.1 surround.

I'm certainly not an Audiophile but I would like something that has decent volume for gaming especially.
I like my audio loud but clear with a decent amount of bass.

Any advice would be appreciated.
Suggestions on where to shop are also welcome.
So far I have only found a few options on Takealot.com. I don't really know where else to look.

Lastly, I don't want to pay anything over R2000.
Ideally no more than R1500.

Hope you guys and gals can give some advice.

Hey,

I have Logitech X530 or something along those lines. They are serving me really well and I think I got them for under R1k. Not sure if you can still buy them but thought I would add my 2c.

I've still got an old pair of Creative 2.1 speakers that I bought years ago for around R270. Still doing a bang up job.

The X530's were replaced with the Z506's, apparently they're pretty decent. I've got the X530's and love them!

If you would prefer 2.1 there is a corsair system going for about R2k. A friend has them and they sound amazing! Can't remember what the model is though

SP2500 If I remember correctly.

Creative T20, I bought a pair and they are amazing, they don't have a sub but still deliver good bass. I find most 2.1 systems are too bass heavy and audio sucks when there's dialogue. If you have a higher budget you can try the T40,which are even better.

Z506 are a major downgrade from the X530s. Not full surround (rear speakers are limited to mid range at low volume), Sub has more echo and less actual bass, sound crackles noticeably on high volume from font and rear speakers, center speaker is soft. And on and on. I really miss my X530s :(

The best of the best are still the Logitech Z5500 but having been out of production for a number of years, good luck getting your hands on them.

I have a set of the corsair SP2500s and can confidently say that these are the closest quality wise to the Logitech Z2300. The corsair's might just fit in to your budget.

+1

Logitech pretty much downgraded their current range of speakers from the previous models, can't go wrong with those corsair speakers

^^ These. Have them as well and the kick ass. They might be a few hundred bucks over your R2k budget, but you won't be disappointed.

Wow. So much information. It's all a bit overwhelming but I'll research all of these suggestions.
Can you guys suggest a few places where I can shop for speaker systems. Preferably online or within the greater Cape Town area.

Will let you guys know once I made a choice. :)

Thanks,
