Hi,

Can anyone recommend good remote desktop software?

I want to be able to login to my home pc from work but also my family overseas sometimes have issues that stress me out trying to fix over the phone.
I'd like to just send them something with minimal configuration and setup so that I can just sort out stuff remotely...

Spanks

Ay tanks man. Thought that was more for businesses...

Will give it a try!

If you still use dialup at home you can try Norton PC Anywhere, as it allows you to dial-in.

Shot,

Just one question. if im at home, and my family is overseas. THen I run the server and they run client? how much config is there? just static ips and correct password?

um, more than one question i guess lol

Nevermind, i found a configuration guide :D

Basically your family have to install Ultr@VNC (or whatever) and find out what their public IP is, and then you can try to connect to them.

Remember the firewall ;)

And use a complex password.

Is it simple to setup etc?

I can only fiddle with these things when I get home

Yeah I think its really easy. You can also instead of logging into the box to set it up make a file from the pc you want to remote FROM and install that on the box/server and it installs itself for much easier access. You can open the box while someone else is on it without them knowing too. Very very handy software.

They run the server, you run the viewer.

How about Logmein - it is extreamly easy to setup no port forwarding required.
Just install on client PC create a free account...
Goto logmein website logon to PC using activex and walla

Whatever you setup make sure its pretty secure. Use a decent password and change the port to something else from the default.
