Good remote desktop software?

Hi,

Can anyone recommend good remote desktop software?

I want to be able to login to my home pc from work but also my family overseas sometimes have issues that stress me out trying to fix over the phone.
I'd like to just send them something with minimal configuration and setup so that I can just sort out stuff remotely...

If it's a Windows platform use RDP.

Have a look at

You will still need DNDNS unless the pc has a static IP address.

If you still use dialup at home you can try Norton PC Anywhere, as it allows you to dial-in.

If you want to use the advanced features of Ultr@VNC, then yes.

I just install Ultr@VNC and I'm in business. You can also look at tightVNC for slower lines

Basically your family have to install Ultr@VNC (or whatever) and find out what their public IP is, and then you can try to connect to them.

Remember the firewall

And use a complex password.

Yeah I think its really easy. You can also instead of logging into the box to set it up make a file from the pc you want to remote FROM and install that on the box/server and it installs itself for much easier access. You can open the box while someone else is on it without them knowing too. Very very handy software.

Remember to setup port forwarding if using a DSL router etc.

They run the server, you run the viewer.

How about Logmein - it is extreamly easy to setup no port forwarding required.
Just install on client PC create a free account...
Goto logmein website logon to PC using activex and walla

If you use UltraVNC you can make a "Single Click" install file, you first configure it, upload the details to the link listed in the link below and it creates a exe, you then send that exe to you family that needs support, they just click and it connects, no settings for them to install.

Whatever you setup make sure its pretty secure. Use a decent password and change the port to something else from the default.
