Good replacement for S4 Mini?

Hi everyone. My brother is thinking of replacing his Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini early next year. He is looking at getting something with either the same or better specs but he wants a bigger screen. He would probably go for a secondhand phone and sell his.

I'm gonna help him out in choosing a new phone... I was thinking of the following:
Samsung Galaxy S3
Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos
Google Nexus 4
Huawei P6
... or anything around 3k to 3.5k approximately

He might be willing to add a bit more in and get an S4 but I don't think he should spend the extra money... Any convincing argument to spend the extra cash? He is a student so no income yet

If he'd go all the way up the size ladder, he can probably get a Note 2 for around R3500 too... but not everyone likes the size.

S3 and Nexus 4 are both awesome too!

His choice should be between the Huawei P6 or the Nexus 4. The Huawei has a better feel and construction with good customisability options. It's right up there with the S4 but it's thinner and more solidly constructed. The actual power of the phone is a wee bit behind the S4. I see the P6 has already dropped to 199 pounds in EU countries as it's making way for the P6S, the LTE version.

Thanks for the comments I've got the Note 2 and I'll see with him if he can handle it, though I don't think he will want to The Huawei really seems to be a solid offer... How does that compare to the S3?

I'd avoid the S3.

Even though the specs are still decent its going to be rather old next year and I am not a fan of the plastic fantastic Samsung build quality. Can't wait to ditch mine.

Alright, maybe avoid the S3 then... I had a Z for a month, wasn't the greatest experience I've had with a phone and I'm much happier with my Note 2 and actually preferred the iPhone 5 I had before... And my brother never liked the phone anyway

I love mine, it's been in a case since the day I got it and it still looks and feels brand new.

I'd still pick the S3 over the p6 - better custom ROM support, more accessories available, plenty of people knows how to replace the screen on it and there is a lot of online resources available for it etc.

He should be looking at keeping the phone for another year at least. He usually keeps phones for a year but he's now decided that the S4 Mini is too small. He got that in August... He uses the phone mainly for whatsapp, music, a bit of browsing and as a GPS (flying and driving) . He wont be using custom ROMs and stuff like that, he doesn't know what to do and would get hopelessly lost
