Hiya guys
I'm running the Zyxel EMG3525-T50B

The wifi range is absolute ****.
What would one recommend to replace it ?
Or would you just add a router onto it with good wifi? Plugged in via ethernet?
Would appreciate the help.
Don't want to spend more than say 2k

Start with this pack and if you find coverage still lacking for some reason(unlikely) you are able to add a single third unit at a later stage to extend coverage..

Check this out on takealot: TP-LINK DECOM4, 2 Pack AC1200 Whole-Home WIFI System

I have it already the 3 pack.
Problem is when load shedding kicks in only the router is alive as the battery backup is right next to it.
To put battery backups for all the mesh units is a costly process

You could, you know, use the money to buy mini DC ups's to keep the deco m4's, you already have, powered through loadshedding..

Even if you do get a second router, to add to the existing one, it's going to sit somewhere else in the house away from your backup power and you are still stuck with how to get power to it..

Get the deco m4's running, start with just two at first, see if it's enough and then take the 2k and buy a mini DC ups to keep the second deco unit powered..

Why not just use the main deco as your router instead of using a separate fiber router? I have the main unit configured and connected to a UPS, so when my power does go down the main unit is still alive and providing internet connectivity. I might consider getting UPSes for the other units in the house too but at this point when the power is off at night, we're usually in the same room as the main deco.

I just thought a modem router with maybe would have better range than this Zyxel. It seems to have terrible wifi strength and signal
So I thought maybe something newer and with more external antennas would be better ?

I use POE to power those mesh units, one is on its own UPS, I got the cheapest possible UPS to power it.

I'd recommend running UTP between the units anyway.

Too many variables go into this to say for sure, that a newer, single WiFi router would be better..

Wall thickness and types play a big part in determining how quickly the WiFi signal deteriorates, along with other things..

A mesh, like the deco m4's you already have, is the most robust option to ensure WiFi coverage throughout..

Can you please explain what you mean by running UTP
Unshielded twisted pair, essentially run new cables to the far away mesh units, and make sure the quality of the cables is Cat 5e, so they operate properly.
as its possible for a mini UPS to power those far away units with its POE connector.

or just buy a Better router from scratch and see if it helps you out.

So like the others have said - Network cable, if you are using a mesh now then a single router wont be able to replace what you have.

Also for 2k you could get UAP'es for each mesh unit.
