I've heard this as well. Theoretically, the higher your finance amount, the better interest rate you'll get. However, the difference between R60k finance and R10k finance is probably negligible.

I doubt you'll get finance for a car for any amount less than R50 000. I think that's about as low as they'll go at the moment. I'm pretty certain that they won't register a HP agreement for R10 000.

Yes, dealer said that the lowest they'll finance is R50k maybe R40k. But the interest would be quite high.

Yes, the interest will be quite high. Don't be put off by that though - the capital amount is low, and the actual total interest each month in rands isn't that high. It may well be worth seeing if your bank will give you a personal load for R10K. It may be cheaper (and will certainly be more flexible) than finance. That way you own the car and don't have to worry about settlement figures etc if you want to sell.

the problem with newer cars is the cost of keys should you lose them

thats also something many people tend to forget

my Santam insurance policy includes cover for lost keys. not sure if it's standard or optional.

You will not go wrong with the 1.9tdi Polo. I have the 2004 sport-line which i drove for 6 years before handing down to my wife when i got a isuzu double cab. it has just over 200 000 KM on and hasn't missed a beat. Fuel consumption at 5.5l per 100 km and it moves!

What about the Suzuki Jimny? They seems pricey compared to the Grand Vitara. Just good resale value?
