Reseller was at my house this morning... as it is my birthday today it was also a nice pressie to see that we've got 100% signal coverage and that the download/upload speed was close to a Teklom ADSL line... :D :D :D without the hassle and stress of dealing with horriblecom...

Now the issue is to work a budget out. Since Telkom is no longer an issue for us, there'll be a bit of extra cash to spare.

Wheeeee.... :D

Cool stuff

If you join.

Will you be running it on your smoothwall box?

Or your going mobile?

Cool. I'm in Silverton and also tested the iBurst there and had 100% signal the whole weekend. Not sure if I'll go for iBurst yet. The modem is a bit expensive.

ADSL line are cheaper so I might just go for that instead... I'll just have to wait and see what happens with the new prices:rolleyes:

In Randburg with 100% and the tower about a km down the road:D

Hand reflector

While playing with a basic Java version of utTraceStar, i tried fiddling with antenna position to get varying signal strengths. I found that keeping my hand about 5cm away kind of parabolocially around the antenna, fingers upward and palm of my hand towards the tower gives me an improvement from -101 / -102 to -94 / -96 dB. I repeated this a couple of times for a number of samples, and the result was repeatable. Now really considering a decent antenna or proper reflector... About 8cm gives slightly better results (2 - 3 dB)

I was playing around with a baking pan next to my UTD the other day and i also got some rather nice results :D

Good coverage is always a good thing. When I got IBurst the IBurst person I spoke to said there is no signal in Edenvale, at the time. And I still got full signal, and still do ;)

Good luck if you decide to go for IBurst (interested in a second hand modem The_Unbeliever??) Lol.
