Hi all,

I'm looking to purchase a multi-functional device to deal with printing and scanning at a home office.
Black and white will suffice but obviously colour would be nice.
Hassle free, good running costs and long term survivability are more important than colour.
Ability to print and scan double sided would be quite nice considering an expected lifespan of 5 years or more.
Ability to connect to the home wifi rather than be cabled would also be a small bonus but probably not critical as long as those running wifi laptops can print without being wired.
I see mono-laser devices like these can be had for around 3k'ish but I'm really hoping that the breadth of experience on this forum can help me make a better choice for quality and good value considering I haven't been near such a device for years.

Thanks for all assistance.

Brother is the usual suggested everyone else just takes you for a ****

Just bought an HP M283fdw and pretty happy so far. Good luck finding ANY stock on Brother printers. Most expect stock to start coming in beginning of August.

How important is scan speed to you? I would maybe consider getting a separate scanner and printer if that is a concern.

I have a Hewlett Packard (HP) mono laser all in one (print, scan, copy, fax), double-sided printing is available on it. It is 3-4 years old now. I have had no problems with it. I usually get the cartridges refilled at one of the many places that do this, because HP's brand cartridges are expensive. I have had no problems or repairs so far.

Thanks for all comments.
Scan speed isn't the big thing but it would be nice to be able to drop a document in the scanner and have it scanned both sides if necessary.

Ok so HP you can refill the cartriges.
Some I hear have a counter in them that will say out of ink even if they still have ink?
Also I've read of an Epson with ink bottles rather than cartriges which makes running costs cheaper.
Any brands I should avoid like the plague?

Unless you print everyday (or very frequently) ink tanks aren't that good. I bought a cheapie Epson L120 ink tank printer. Paid R400 for it. I print less than once a week and almost every time I do print I have to go through the cleaning cycle and maintenance for the printer.

We have a Samsung M2070FW - Black and White Laser printer, has been working well for 3 years now.

Toner is around R400 and last's us about a year or so - too lazy to look at the stats on the printer for actuals

I like the WiFi connectivity, and the Samsung Print App

I grabbed one of these jobbo's last week when Loot had it on special for R1400, next day it was back up to R2700

Waiting for delivery so can't comment yet but what a bargain at that price

Canon or Samsung, or both.
These two brands I've seen pumping out prints by the hundreds without any problems.
