In contgrast to all AWB, ET, MALEMIFICATION and name calling and salary dropping and black this and white that...let's clap hannies for this woman! I must commend Ina Cronje for taking these measures.... Great work done, as R700 millie is missing atributed to corruption etc.

How does this work? Was this person caught and then have to pay back the stolen R735k AND still go to jail in 20 years???:wtf:

SHe would go to jail if she was found guilty of a similar offense within the next 20 years. The money she/he has to pay it back nonetheless
 
A suspended sentence (suspended for five years) means that if they commit another offense within five years they will be sent to jail for the full sentence. Otherwise, they are free. I'm pretty sure that's what it is. This is usually meted out to first-time offenders.
 
Nah it can't be, the report is in past tense as if it already happened??? So I read it as the person is going to jail? If it is like you say, its crap, they stole money and now have to go to jail, we would!
 
Suspended Sentence: where a person is found guilty, the court suspends the passing of a sentence and releases the offender on conditions set out in a probation order. Upon the expiration of the probation order, where the person has not been charged with further offences and has complied with all conditions of a probation order, the court will not sentence the person;

Thats utterly retarded.

If the punishment for stealing something is only paying for it then that will only encourage theft. From the thiefs perspective its a pretty solid deal: Not get caught -> Score. Get caught -> Makes it a normal purchase transaction & pay market price.

Where the hell is the deterrent in that?

Suspended sentence my ass. Reminds me of the opening scene of the godfather.
