The most technically accomplished road car yet built has come to the end of its seven-year production cycle.

Bugatti, a brand under the VW Group, has announced it has sold the very last of its 300 unit Veyron production.

The Veyron, powered by an eight-litre, quad-turbo, W16 engine, set many records in its short prodiuction life and captured the imagination of automotive enthusiasts like few other products.

CARTOONISH NUMBERS

Fabled for its brutal power (in SuperSport trim it’s good for 895kW/1500Nm) and fantasy engineering details (it has 10 radiators, for instance) the Veyron is a car like no other - making Lamborghinis and Ferraris seem, well, a trifle underwhelming...

Its cartoonish performance numbers, headline by a topspeed of 430km/h, guarantee that its status as the most over-engineered (and fastest) internal combustion car will never be surpassed.

It’s not all bad news for followers of the French brand, though. The Veyron’s convertible sibling, Bugatti’s Grand Sport, will remain available to customers for the time being.

Although his identity is being secret, Bugatti says its last Veyron will be delivered to a European customer by the third quarter of 2011, signalling an end to a rather special chapter in the history of supercars.

I foresee a hefty hike in second hand Veyron prices!

I'll take you for a spin in mine, don't worry :p

Wouldn't fit:

Now watch the 2nd-hand value climb of this beast. Happened with the McLaren F1 as well.

Sad day but at least the Galiber has been approved.

No, he's a cock as well.
Dude, he is the cocks cock! Not just any cock, mind you. Give the man some credit! Besides, he earns a heck of a lot more than you and I could hope to just being one :)

By making the Veyron, even only 300 units, Bugatti have established the brand again. Ask my 5yr old what's the fastest car in the whole wide world and no, its not a Ferrari or Lamborghini like we are used to saying.

The Veyron was, until last year, only the fastest production car in the world for a short 2 years until Shelby SSC Ultimate Aero knocked it from that spot. It's regained it's top spot a year ago last Sunday with the Veryon Super Sport of which only 5 were built that can beat the SSC... not what i'd call a mainstream production car.

Until the Veyron, the McLaren F1 held that spot the longest for a whopping 12 years - not bad considering the increase in speed of technology advancement... before the McLaren F1, only one car managed to keep the record for double figures - the Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona (1968-1984). Collectively the Lambo only had 4 years at the top with 2 cars. Clearly Ferrari have the biggest pedigree in that department but certainly not aiming right up there with the mod supercars anymore... they've always been production cars in the true sense though.
