Goodbye Lions, Hello Kings?

They should just return to the super 12 and have the top four teams in each domestic competition compete.

There isn't any domestic rugby (union) in Aus, thats's why we have the conference format.

Also Super Rugby franchises are technically diffrent to Currie Cup unions

Is this the same Southern Kings that lost 88-0 to the Lions in a friendly a couple of weeks ago???

I've said it before and I'll say it again, in a competition like the Super 6/10/12/14/15 there are no weak teams but the franchise's that battle tend to be the South African one's.

Now include the Kings in that equation, a team there purely on the back of a big political push and not merit and you can guess the rest..

That "Kings" team contained none of the currently contracted players and consisted of players from the Border and SWD sub-unions.

The problem is if they can't field enough players to be CLOSE to competative for 4-5 weeks then how in <insert deity's name> do they want to compete in a minimum 15 week tournament!?

:wtf: :wtf: :wtf: :wtf:

Huh? They had played the Cheetahs, Bulls and Stormers and were about to play the Sharks on the Saturday. What did you expect them to do? The match was also played in George, not PE

Man, I can't WAIT to go watch some super 15, personally I couldn't give a rats a$$ how SARU does it. We were cheated of this a decade ago, and I hope SARU gets sued into the ground if it doesn't happen. On a side note, it makes sense to can the lions since they could afford to sue SARU anyway :p

Mickey I am saying if they do not have sufficient players (of quality) to manage this, then how will they do in the harshest Rugby compitition in the world? did you see how the lions struggled last year with one or two key players lost? See how the Cheethas bring in young players to cover the injuries sustained in the Super Rugby season? How will the Kings manage this?

The Bulls beat them with a weakened young currie cup team imo.

No Super 15 team has ever played 5 Super 15 games in 14 days...

Note where quite a few of those "young blood" players come from...

Don't get me wrong... the current Kings' squad will not fare well in the S15 and will have to be supplemented with quite a few "big name" players in key positions.

Ok, thought we missed each other there. Also the 10mil going to the kings might buy them a couple of okish players for one or two seasons.

I do not think people realise what these players earn. R28k / month is the minimum iirc. 28 x 12 = 336k a year per player, and that is for the "bottom of the barrel" players.

I think they only get paid for pre-season and regular season months

Yes that will be the major problem... where do we host it.

Orlando Stadium? Although I am not sure if the Bulls supporters will move from Loftus :(
Didn't the bulls play in Soweto for the semi's before the fifa world cup and the turn out was spectacular, granted They took a little long to get there.

I have never seen a rugby player working in the off season, not even the lowly earners.

I might be wrong though.
I was referring to Super Rugby Franchises, they pay their players for just their pre-season and regular season and on top of that players also get paid by their Domestic Franchises

:erm: Yes but lets be honest, those are pretty much the same things. In the case of the Kings even more so.

Also will the EP not play CC but they will be included in the Super Rugby?

The EP Kings narrowly missed promotion in 2010 and had no chance whatsoever in 2011 due to the downsizing. It's pretty common knowledge that they backed the reduction of the premier division in return for a shot in the Super Rugby series.

I was refering to the $$$$ issue. The players will not settle to only be the books of the Kings. No player will settle imo to just play for half of the rugby season.
