I've contacted Google regarding their R600 voucher for adwords, and have spoken to a consultant. Now, I was advised by another forumite on a budget for adwords in my field (photography). However, the consultant has me at a budget quite a bit higher, around double, using the CPC and a campaign designed for me by one of their people who is trained to make "compelling" Adwords - whatever that is.

Any advice on where to go from here and your own experiences? Is he just trying to get me to spend more or should I go for it?

PS - I'm a noob when it comes to this.

It all depends on the competition for the keywords you choose.

There's two strats you can go for basically.

Pay higher and target the top 3 positions, or pay lower and target position 4-6.

R600 isn't really a lot. I'm sure you could easily spend that in a day in the industry you are in. You can get your CTR costs down by making your Ads, keywords and landing pages "in sync". IE show that they are all relevant to each other.

I say do 1 month your original plan, then next month their suggestions. Just keep in mind seasonality. I'm sure in the photography industry pricing goes up when it's wedding season.

Which reminds me. You can also keep costs down by using negative keyword matching.

Thanks man, helps a bit. Problem is that I don't know enough about what you mean regarding syncing those, which is why having a campaign designed for me would help.

Basically if you have the same wording on the keyword, the Ad and the landing page Google will see this as having more relevance and you will get a discount.

Thanks. Do you have an article where I could get more specifics like what you've supplied? I'd google but tons and tons of stuff comes up and apparently these things can get outdated pretty quickly.
