Big Android anti-malware security upgrade

Google will start scanning apps downloaded from sources other than its Play Store for malicious code before they are installed on a user's device.

The new feature was detailed in a recent security blog update by Google's group product manager, Steve Kafka, and senior engineer manager, Roma Kirrilov.

seems like its just a way for google to try and prevent people from installing ways to get around YouTube ads on android. I am willing to bet apps like Vanced or Re-Vanced are going to get flagged while actual malicious code in other apps will get ignored.

Yup, like my Sudoku app that got flagged not because it's unsafe but because it leverages ads that aren't actually displayed. Google's policies aren't geared towards safety.
