Some years ago I registered a domain for family email use. I never set up any email accounts on cPanel, but rather managed everything though Google Apps, which was still free at the time.

Some family member are now in need of a password reset. They tried the regular "forgot password" route, but Google referred them to the Admin (me). When I log in to the Admin console (www.google.com/a or www.google.com/dashboard) I get access to all sorts of information and Google services, but I cannot manage any of the email accounts any more.

I understand that Google Apps for private use is no more, only for business.

My challenge now is how to find the password linked to an email account, managed by Google without Google giving me the tools.

I can create a new email address with the same name as the one currently used in cPanel, but I assume that the user will then lose all data store in the Google managed version of the same email address.

I hope I was clear enough in my explanation. Any ideas?

I believe that if you were an existing user at the time the policy was changed, then the system remains free for your domain. Only new domain email users will be charged per mailbox.

So in theory you should still have free access to the system

That's all good in theory, but logging in to the Admin console does not give me access to manage the email accounts as it did before

Go to https://mail.google.com/mail/ and then on the right click on the gear icon and see if you have "Manage this domain" - if not, you are not an admin anymore or are using the wrong account. In some cases you might be able to get around it by using GWMT and re-verifying your site (https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/home?hl=en)

I managed to re-verify,but still get the "this site is managed by xxxxxxx.co.za" message when clicking the gear icon. Any more hints?

So you don't get the "Manage this domain" option via mail.google.com? Another option might be to try the recovery option - but this will probably not give you Google Apps access - https://www.google.com/accounts/recovery.

Last thing I can think of is look at your complete profile: https://www.google.com/settings/dashboard (if none of this helps, you will have to go through dreadful Google Apps support)

I see what you mean. There are phone numbers, but only US based. Email support is only available to administrator. Thiat excludes me, as Google keeps saying that the account is managed by my domain....

Stuck between a rock and a hard place....

Call them.

Their support is great and it's hardly that expensive these days.

In fact I think you can call them through Hangouts for free.

I suspect you are logging in with the wrong account. The domain is usually managed by an account at that domain while you seem to be trying from another.

Or you simply aren't the admin in which case you'll need to contact the admin or prove to Google that you own the domain.

I managed to get a support form filled with quick response. That and your post regarding wrong Admin account lead me to the conclusion that I was indeed using the wrong account. All is now resolved.

Thank you to all for helping out even though I was being daft
