I have a bit of a problem.

Last night i upgraded the rom on my phone and with that i had to wipe my phone. I thought when i sign in to Google i will have my numbers back that i use the Authenticator for but that did not happen. Authenticator was wiped clean and now i am a bit stuck, i can't get into some sites because i don't have the One Time Pin

I tried the security settings on my google account but that is just for Gmail and not for the other sites you use it for. Can some one please help me get this working again

I tried the data base file but that was wiped clean with the re-install

The Google security settings are for all Google services as far as I know.

Can't you just install the Authenticator again? I guess I'm not really following what your exact issue is. I've got 2-step authentication switched on and never have an issue loading new ROMs. I usually skip the first screen where it tries to do so manually as it often blocks the SMS code. I then add my Google account manually in the settings and use the SMS code instead of the Authenticator...

Hi DJ

It installed ok, but al the sites i added before the wipe is gone, and i have no idea how to retrieve it again

I tried to switch the Two Step of just to get into the site again to redo the setting but it just tell me to enter the one time pin

I think you might have a problem there...

Did you at least print the backup codes?

Also, which sites if I may ask? I know you can link lastpass etc to it but thats the only one I know of.

Oh, I see. Well I'm not sure about that one to be honest. Will have to let someone else try to help you there. Hopefully you get it back up and running. Perhaps uninstall Authenticator and try again...

Found these - http://www.howtogeek.com/130755/how...credentials-to-a-new-android-phone-or-tablet/

Thx DJ

found those as well yesterday. The problem is i never had Two Step switched on for Gmail so i never got the option to move to a new phone, so i am kinda stuck.

I wrote an email to the site to as if they can switch it of so that i can just get into my account, so i am waiting now. lol i even tried to reset my password but that is just the password and does not touch the Two Step

Edit: i have a Titanium backup but that was never done for Authenticator, i thought because it is a Google product when i sign in all my stuff will come back, silly me

Uninstall Authenticator and start again...?

Same thing.

When i click Begin Setup, it lists my gmail account, and if i click on that it tells me to go online to my google security settings to enable Two Step

Edit. Noware on that site i get a list of the sites i enabled Two Step for. Is there some place i can see that?

-Log into Gmail
-Click the cog in the top right corner and choose settings
-Click on the "Accounts and Import" tab
-Click on Other Google Account settings
-Once redirected goto the "Security" Tab

Under "password" enable 2 Step Verification.

Hi.

That is to enable it for your Google Account, i am looking for a way to retrieve the sites i did have it for before i wiped my phone, i did that twice yesterday as i thought it might get my stuff back but did not work it just switched it on for my Google account

Well once you're back in on the google side then print those 10 emergency codes...those are what I used last time to fix the same problem.

Thanks .. you gave my some glimmer of hope, but that site still tells me invalid one time pin, i will wait for the email from them.

For security reason it does not and will not sync, the security tokens are stored on your phone and phone only. In order for 2 step to be effective backup codes must exist, you simply did not seem them on that site, this, that's happens rite now is why 2 step is always explicitly partnered with a backup method, either backup codes list or your phone number to receive an OTP.

There is no way you are ever getting those codes backup unless you had a nandroid and revert to it. The keys used for those generators are created for the device you set them up on when you set them up, if you had setup an authenticator on 2 devices you would site and stare them for years before ever running into a single matched code on them.

You will have to manually contact each site and provide undeniable proof that you own the account, which will include emailing from the exact registered account t as wel. Most likely they will help you, but they can just as easily say sorry, you should of saved the backup codes. The whole point is to make a almost unbreakable wall between the outside world and your personal data.

Those codes are specifically for Google, each site you setup the Auth with will have its own set of codes tied to the encryption key used when the Auth was activated.

Tx for the help. After jumping through hoops fwd and backward and standing on my head with one eye open all is good again :)
