Google+ Auto Backup

I've had no issues for the last 9 months - but I've noticed the last few weeks things aren't backing up. I've also haven't been at home (wifi) for a few days at a time over the past few weeks.

I've just taken a photo now and it backed up, but it's left a few older ones out.

Anyone else having issues? I have a Sony Z2 with Android 4.4.4
Is there a way to force a sync?
Is there a time limit, perhaps, like don't back up anything older than 3 days?

Using the stock Photo app in 5.1, it's settings, Auto-Backup, then scroll down to "Back up all" - sorry, can't remember if the steps are the same in 4.4.4.
