Google buying Motorola Mobile

Shuttleworth can make "Ubuntu Mobile" what Meego could/should have been. China is the future, not the States, so an OS that get traction there may never need US market acceptance.

I guess that is why I love MIUI so much. Its really the best of both worlds. It has all the customization from Android and all the design and elegance from iOS and it comes from the east.

Lucky for us there are plenty of people working on translations so we all can enjoy this Gem.

Seems some people seem to thing that this merger will be the end of Android and Motorola. I really dont understand why so many negative feelings around this. Google made it very clear that Android will remain open...nothing has changed. It is just that they now have a finger in the hardware pie and I cant see this as anything but a good thing. Motorola, even though they make very very good hardware, was recovering from a long term financial struggle and will also benefit from this cash injection. HTC, Samsung etc, they have their die hard fans that will stay with them...and they will keep on getting new customers if people like their future models. Same with Motorola. Lets face it....many many people, propably the majority of people actually, dont know WTF Android even is. They buy according to the brand and they hear that it has a app store and wet their panties. They dont so much care what goes on under the bonnet...as long as it looks pretty...they can download Angry Birds and have WhatsApp. :D
 
The last thing we need is another mobile OS. We have iOS, Android, WM7 that Blackberry thing and now Meego. Just too many.

Hamster, we need TokolOS to put SA on the map and to haunt the other players ("that small OS from Africa"). Getting Ballmer to sleep with bricks under his bead will be worth the effort.

Even Nokia's Symbian OS that was made in Finland had loads of trouble trying to sell in the US.

Samsung had a flirtation with Bada, but the US did not buy it at all

Both your examples didn't fail because of where they were made. They failed because the competition was better. Ever used Symbian? :p

I developed applications for it.

If you compare it to today's software yes it really sucked, but if you compare it to the alternative back in the day it was much better than say the software that was on the phones of that day, still Nokia did not do well in the US back then.
