China on Thursday insisted Google's threat to quit the country over censorship and cyberattacks should not be linked to Sino-US ties, seeking to play down a simmering row over Internet freedom.

Will be a big economic loss to Google if they decide to pull out, but will be an even greater loss to Chinese business if they do decide to do so. A massive inconvenience to business, science and general communications. I wonder how knuckle headed the Chinese government will be over this. Everybody in the world knows what they are like including their own people, so why try to hide it?

It urged the nearly 700,000 Western companies operating in China to "adapt to the market and to the diversities of Chinese society", adding: "China cannot be a colony of Western values."

Well then I suggest that those 700 000 companies leave China as well, and let's see how much of China's recent growth was as a result of foreign values or Chinese values
