Since Google is likely to have the most to gain in this it seems very anti-competitive.
 
Google are not getting rid of cookies, they are getting rid of third-party cookies.

For people who don't know the difference: first-party cookies are the equivalent of freshly baked cookies that your ouma made for you whilst third-party cookies are the equivalent of a soggy Marie after a few rounds.

Now you will never forget the difference.

Shoddy journalism. Also it doesn't help with them moving to replacements where you can be tracked. Any form of third party tracking is almost entirely unnecessary.
