Google Chromecast feedback thread

Meh. I am kinda disappointed. This thing is very limited. Can't do much with it.

With chrome, i can share a tab on my TV and with my Nexus phone and Tablet i can cast the screen to the Chromecast.
So am now casting Hulu (amongst other sites) to my TV, which is great.

While i would not compare it to a Roku or Android player it does plenty for me.

Is this similar to Yatse remote sending links to Xbmc? Only thing that sound different is desktop casting.

What would you like to do that you can't?

Not so much about what it can't do. Maybe I phrased that badly. It is just such a schlepp. My other media devices just make it so simple. Anyway my curiosity for the device is satisfied. I can't see myself using it all that much.

I can mirror my entire phone/tablet screen onto the TV. So whatever shows on my device screen shows on the TV

That's more of a gimmick than a feature. ;)
When I first bought my cast, I played with it for a few days and abandoned it.

3 months down the line, and my pi is now on my CRT TV, and the chrome cast has replaced it as my media player client.

This gimmick as you call it is one of the reasons. I look at my tablet as a very smart remote and don't have to use the crappy lg smarttv features any more

How are you using it though? It was a bit of a schlep to set up (for Netflix etc.. purely because of country restrictions), but I just run use the Plex/Netflix/YouTube/BBC iplayer apps on my phone to stream to my TVs. Not sure how it could be any easier!

If you're trying to cast content via your web browser using tab casting, then yes, I agree, that's a schlep and I've never found the need for that feature.

Ja, curiosity made me buy the thing, but I already have other media devices that are far easier to use.

1) I have a Mede8er which hooks into my home wired network.
2) I have a laptop with a long HDMI cable which can output to the TV.
3) I have a Samsung BluRay player which is also hooked into the home network and also supports plex and Upnp.

There is really nothing that the chromecast does better than any of these except mirror my cellphone.
And what the chromecast DOES do, takes a fair amount of time to set up properly.

I'll probably just give it away as a gift or something.
Or maybe wait until Google upgrades the firmware to something more amazing.

Yes, it depends on how you prefer your setup.

For me I want everything to be in one place and I like having a remote too. This is the reason I went for the Roku 3, I don't need to connect anything else to my TV because the Roku does it all.

I must say the Chromecast is pretty cool and works well if you don't mind not having a physical remote that isn't a phone/tablet.

Yeah, its my birthday tomorrow according to the Siberian calender (the alternate mongolian Jupiter based one - 3rd century revised edition). Just thought I would mention it.

I don't think its a firmware issue....its an applications issue. Google took too long to release the api for the cast, and so only recently have apps supported.

One of my favourite is bubble upnp, and of course Plex.....both on android
