Does anyone have a idiots guide to setting this up on Windows.

I've got a small project I'l like to put on google code. I've downloaded tortoise and tried to get it going with google code.

I dont seem to be getting anywhere.

I've created a new repository on a empty directory. When added in a test file with the repo browser. Now if I go to the google website I dont see the file. I've also tried commiting and it says nothing to commit.

Im completely lost :(

Google Code is probably not long for this world. GitHub is the clear winner in this space and has some good intro documentation:
- https://help.github.com/articles/create-a-repo

Really depends on your projects if github is the clear winner. When it comes to private repos, it is clearly not, the pricing is not great. Bitbucket is a much more viable solution for this.

Git is the way no doubt, there is no reason IMO to use svn
