For those of you who don't know what this is, it's an annual programming competition hosted by Google. Here's a link to the main website: Google Code Jam. The qualification round was yesterday, so registrations are closed, but you can still have a look at the problems.

Is anyone else participating? What were your thoughts on the problems in the qualification round? The problems were slightly harder than I expected, based on some of the "get your feet wet" problems from the archives, but still, nothing too fancy, except problem D, which went right over my head :(

Gosh, those questions remind me of varsity days.
Scary stuff.

Haha what you mean viper? I actually like how they put a "story" to all the questions, so even if you're just solving an optimization problem, it gives you a different way of thinking about it. "Algorithms are not Goro's strength. Strength is Goro's strength". I thought that was pretty cool ^_^

AnthIste, yo :D, and looks good. Tons of UCT compsci students do it. Haven't checked out problems though.

Sup Sysem :D those flippen UCT students take these competitions so seriously.... the Standard Bank challenge was basically "let's try beat UCT"... I heard they train for the stuff... but that's just hearsay lol. You should be competing ;)

Haha yeah dude, they do! Its awesome though ;) I have absolutely no time dude. When is it?

Ha! Thought so :P and I must say I'm a bit short on time myself... but each round is only like 2.5 hours so it's not too bad. If you drop out, whatever, you tried. But it started on Saturday already, next round is in like 11 days. I wonder how much harder the "real" round1 is going to be than the qualification round :?
