Google does not pay overtime: contractor

Kry vir julle...

Work is work. Hours are hours. Value is value. Do it properly!

Try running a firm where employees loaf at work then scramble after hours to meet deadlines... and demand overtime. It's a real problem.

This sounds like a management/team leader issue, otherwise known as delegation.

Nooononono... I'm definitely not talking about delegation. I'm talking about employees who stay up all night partying, come in with batteries half charged, and can't concentrate, then fart around in working hours and cram towards the deadline, expecting overtime. It's a social problem and attention span problem. Entertainment problem. It's becoming more and more common.

Definitely agree. Only people higher up tend to see this though.

We don't know if this is the case though. Google seems to have a good working environment though.

Lack of work ethic, fire them.

( might sound harsh but I work my ass off and I actually enjoy it, if I can they can )

Stingy huge companies
Nope - big companies will force compliance with their policies...regardless of whether its in their favour or your...brute force policy following.

e.g I get mails telling me to comply with policy X
....
but I also get mails tell me "you're about to forfeit X leave days if you don't take them".

An easy fix is to move away from a system where you pay for the time that the bum is in the seat, to a system where you pay x amount for Y amount of work unrelated to the time it actually took.

You are correct. Lol. It's amazing how some companies can survive with such weak management.

All overtime should be authorised anyway. Don't authorise it. Include in performance, delivering work within budget. If someone is slacking but you still don't have enough to fire them, don't give them an increase or bonus. They will leave soon enough of their own accord.

Big deal, I dont get paid overtime either. Normal rate x number of hours worked.

That is still a management concern. What you are saying is as though the line manager is unaware of the behavior until after the fact. Was it not documented that X wasn't performing and thus cannot claim for overtime? Where was the written warning? Do you not have enough of a team to accommodate an absent employee? Is that not a risk to your clients?

There are a myriad of other things to address but these are just the initial queries I'd ask :)
