Hello All,

I was wondering if anyone else has been unfortunate enough to experience the absolute bug-fest that is Google Drive.

For the past 3 days I have been trying to upload around 400 photos and videos to my Google Drive and what a dreadful experience it has been.

For one, uploads are extremely slow. Sometimes the app will upload half the files and then simply stop. Other times it won't resume if I disconnect from my WiFi and reconnect to it at a later stage.

I've had to clear the app cache and restart the uploads multiple times. It's a measly 7GB of files on a 100/50mb Fibre line.

I'm running Android 11 on a Galaxy S21+ with the latest software updates and more than 200GB of cloud storage left.

Am I missing something or is Drive this horrible to everybody?

Thanks in advance!

The Android app is heavily throttled for uploading.

Instead, open Chrome, set as desktop mode, then go to drive.google.com and max your fibre upload speed that way. This is what I do when uploading home video's of my kids.

Brilliant advice! Thank you!!! It went from a 3day struggle to an ETA of 30 minutes.

Is there a reason for the insane throttling on the Android app?

I have no idea. But it's very irritating. I used to OTG flash stick the files off my phone and upload from a pc until one day I thought about trying the browser upload and it went like a rocket on my fibre line.

Let's hope they can fix this in future app releases. Until then, I'll stick with the method you provided. Thanks again! All my files are now uploaded without issues.

Copy the files to a PC. Last week I uploaded 16500 pictures (4.6Gb) to a Google Drive folder and it took 12 mins on a 50 mpbs fibre line

You might also try Microsoft One Drive. Also 15Gb free

Google Drive is the absolute dog turd of mass backups, the Data hoarders Reddit can attest to that

To get you to install their spyware browser, Chrome.

I use the Workspace version of Google Drive. Don’t try to use this with their Backup & Sync app. That will drive you crazy. There is another app that “mounts” the Google drive and shows it just like a connected external drive. Makes a huge difference.
