Thanks oldhat, it's completely different to the old version I had and I can only download to the desktop and not into my programme folder. Can't navigate as easily as I could. This OLD Dog has got to lean new tricks.
There is an option to 'customize your installation' on that page where you can find older versions if you click on 'direct installers' link.

Thanks, I'll probably be asking you for more info if you don't mind.

Yeah, I'm the guy ... or thing.

This is great, for I have started teaching geography this year to the grade 7s for the first time. I will definitely use this resource.

I'm not teaching alone. I'm being groomed to take over geography from a guy who is retiring, beginning of next year.

what ever happened to picard?

I have successfully downloaded and installed it. i'm an idiot as I didn't open the exe. file.
It has the same problem as the earlier version I deleted, that is when I select ruler and set Path metres the accept/clear buttons are greyed out and cannot activate.

I do believe you have to initially measure a path before those buttons work.

If you right-click on the start point, do you get a pop-up menu?

Edit:

On the version I have, I need to select Ruler from the Tools menu, then click on Path tab. I can then click multiple points on map to measure.

I used to be able to do it using the line tool but when I switched to path ( which the help forum said was correct) that ability to accept has been greed out. That why I deleted the old version and thought that by downloading the new free pro version I might get rid of the bug. BTW, I followed the link that you provided. It's a complete mystery. I also have GE on my iPad but the iOS app does not have all the features as the PC one.

When you select Path and hover mouse over map, does the pointer change to a square target?

Just installed the latest version on my pc now. I see that there is no feedback when you select the first point to measure from. However, if you click on another place on the map it creates a path.
