Google are looking to crack the African market but instead of making a beeline for SA, one of the most developed countries on the continent, they are setting up camp in Kenya.

Can't agree more with that...

...it's the local telecommunications market still holding everything down.

So sad to see... :(

South Africa is notorious for not accepting help from other countries regarding communications. Everything has to happen at South African pace. The World Bank have on numerous times offered to fund undersea cables but NO South Africa knows better.

To be very frank, I am getting very sick and tired of Telkom and government current stand and handling of telecoms. With each day that passes I grow increasingly more intolerant, and, well, one of these days I'm gonna snap.

Someone is going to be on the receiving end of a Chuck Norris type roundhouse kick, or worse.

@ Alchemist...

There was once a time, not so long ago... where Telkom irritated me so much that I was tempted to take a brick, walk down to the Telkom store and have myself a minor infraction.

Then I remembered the legal implications... Then I decided against it and spoke kindly to the person on the phone and asked them what exactly it is that they do, on the number that I've dialed at least 4 times a month for the last 2 years, that they are incapable of getting me another frikking 2gig account.

I blessed my stars the day (last month I believe) Telkom let me buy accounts online, instantly, without phoning in.. Boy was I happy....
