Google Glass specification sheet published

and costs?

Techradar and the like report early developer versions going for $1500 which, if that is going to be the retail price, is ridiculous. Unless this thing is life changingly good I would consider R2000 to be pushing it. Regardless, R8000+ is just stupid.

Google Glass specs officially unveiled

Google has released the official list of specifications for its new smart headgear.

Going to be interesting.

a) I wonder how big it will be? Sure I will buy one but I wonder if it will end up in my tech graveyard.
I am not convinced it will be the next big thing. (like smartphones and tablets).
By next big thing I mean something everybody aspires to, acquires and uses everyday.
That is what is required to make it sell in the 10s of millions

b) Good for Google for announcing.
We know that both Microsoft and Apple have something in the works but we dont know how far along it is.

In fairness the prices will come down.
They probably dont want mammoth roll out to begin with.

one thing i didnt see was proc speed? makes me wonder if it relies heavily on a phone to do the heavy lifting and merely interfacing for it

No who wants to sell a bunch of products at launch?

My prediction: Glass will launch in 'Beta' mode.

Erm, its already launched as "beta" mode.... that is why only a select few have them right now.

It has 12 gig internal for storage of pics and so on, but will rely on phone for internet access, so anything other than Video/Pics you will need your phone or some other wifi access.

I get that a lot of people do not like this esp seeing that its coming from Google, but you have to admit its the birth of something new. Sure it might be crap and limited but its something that will soon be available to everyman. I suspect as the numbers Mass the more we will see this type of thing, and even from other OEM's. They will also look different I am sure(US patents make sure of that).

What I can not wait for is the AR of tomorrow that overlay your normal vision with eye tracking and heads up. Think of it, people's names floating above their heads or just looking at something to get more info(Think QR code that auto translate or have an info box over it). Not to forget the AR HUD's coming to cars and so on.

TL;DR this is only the birth of something big, like it or not.
