Google Home update bricks smart speakers

Google has confirmed that an update to its Google Home and Google Home Mini smart speakers is leaving some of these devices unusable.

Rachel Chambers, a Google employee, responded to several complaints from users, stating that the company had noted the issue and was working on solving it.

I have the same problem. After saying hey google there is a beep but light remain on on in a quite room as if sound is still being detected.

So since when did this start bricking devices? Shall I keep mine switched off until it's sorted?
Mine is a grey import from Takealot. I doubt they will replace it once bricked?

Affected devices can be identified by the fact that the four lights on the device – which usually indicate whether the device is listening to you – remain on permanently.

Maybe the update disabled the covert listening feature

Happened to both my Home and my home mini. Reported it 3 weeks ago, spent hours on the phone to google support.
Tried everything, nada. Both still bricks.
