Google kills Android Nearby Notifications

Google announced that it is discontinuing support for Android’s Nearby Notifications feature.

Nearby Notifications was created to allow users to discover apps and content based on nearby events, but the number of spam notifications has increased drastically this year.

A better idea is to use NFC tags, let you scan that and directs you to a web page about the product.

Could have been a lot of cool stuff using this, but it was bound to get abused, maybe an apply to Google for being allowed to use it or something, if you abuse you get removed.
They still have to fix up Google Business, you can literally register your business in the whitehouse if you like.

the guy is not a great talker, but what he did is interesting. Basically set up another business of FBI, gave it a couple of extra ratings so it floats up on top, and then everyone who wants to call the FBI uses his number instead, he just patches it through to the FBI while recording everything. There is no actual verification.

I never had a phone with this feature. Plus I have my location off most of time.

Didn't they introduce it with 8 and are already killing it? I have it turned off on my phone though.
