Google Launches Its Own Second Life

To be compared to Second Life it needs to have a lot more than Cartoon Avitars and 3d chat rooms, which is all it realy shows on the front page. My take is that it compares more with There.com than Second Life. Thanks for the heads up, busy downlading now.
Will give a better comparison in a while.

First impressions

Trying to compare this to Second Life is like comparing Widows 3.0 to OSX Leapord.
sure they are both, sort of 3d, and allow text chat and that is where the simularity ends.
I won't try and judge it on performance, at the moment, as my entire system is slow, I will have another go at it tonight.
First immpression. It is a 3d Chat Room and not much else, it is sertanly not a vertual world. But it is early days and Google have the clout so lets see where they take it.

Still cant work out how to texture the room but I have to rush off and see a client, will play arround with this later.
 
I've tried to get into Second Life, but the cap it chows is scary. There was pretty boring tbh.

Yeah, I also gave up on Second Life for that same reason. I would have used it a lot more if it did not chow so much bandwidth... and that was even with the music turned off.

on a 4meg line SL pulls 100Mb per hour, even if you are alone in a Sim, so yes bandwidth is heavy and hence another way in which Telkom is blocking south Africa from participating in International commerce. My own SL bussniss venture pays for itself but not the bandwidth, so effectivly all my profit goes to telkom, where as my rivals are actualy earning cash :(
But still, I do it for fun, and a hobby that pays for itself is not too bad :)

Good ol' IMVU lol. I actually registered for that in 2006 so I could have my name written in gold and become a developer :D So fall all I've created is a sticker which has sold a few times actually!
 
Downloaded Lively today but the furtherest I could load was up to "Joining room". At that point it just stays there forever...

EDIT: Working now (but I wish it wasn't :P)
