what on earth is it with google maps that displays things like 500m or further away from where they actually are

1. got lost in kraaifontein trying to find penny pinchers in brakenfell

2. got lost in hermanus trying to find the whalemuseum which said it was on an estate

both samsung galaxy s2 and galaxy tab v10.1 show same results

Another reason why I finally gave up and bought https://market.android.com/details?id=com.sygic.aura

Well the app is free, and SA maps (provided by TomTom) only cost me R325.00

don't spose I can use my current tomtom maps I bought a few days ago for like R1k!!!! :(

HAHHAHAHA.... /me rolls on floor pointing

Oh man that just sucks, guess you should have posted earlier ;)

Could have saved like R700

Looks like you are fresh out of luck, no ability to use your own TomTom maps sorry.

But you can still go look at the features over here to see if it gives you a reason to get it. Or just try out the 7 day free trail.

2 Features that made me wish more people down here would get it is crowdsourcing of Traffic camera's and other speed traps.

Very off, i use google maps all the time and its 100% accurate, traks me and every location i go to within 5-10m.
Maybe you were just doing something wrong.

I have found esp in small towns that Google maps is on drugs. Like Bushmans, they want me to go to church in a house and buy groceries in a park. Maybe larger towns/cities is ok, but I know some places I visit its not the case.

Google Maps sometimes gets confused with house numbers, but on the whole I've found it to be useful. Like sending the street view to a tech who has gotten lost due to some wallie stealing the street signs for tik money. On the other had it said a road in Hout Bay was in the middle of the river

Is the OP referring to the fact it will tell you for instance to turn left before you hit the actual place where you have to turn?

Well point no 2 sounds more like POI that is not where Google Nav said they are, a museum in the middle of an estate does not sound like a early turn error.

I find most people are idiots when specifying gps coordinates on their sites and places page.

Sometimes they're too accurate. Like specifying the location of the building instead of the entrance closest to the access road.

Google needs to go on an education drive.

Also i have in the past issued corrections to the maps that have been accepted.

Oh crap I am guilty x 2 on 2 POI's I've entered.

That should read

...access road closest to the entrance

Is it worth buying the maps from the Sygic site? I am fed up with Co-Pilot and their crap support. Such a waste of money :( :(

They have a 7 day free trail so you welcome to test it for yourself

For me its worth it but I can not compair to copilot As I never seen co pilot in action

Well Co-Pilot runs on this phone, it just won't download the maps. Their support just told me its nothing they can assist with as my phone is not listed as a compatible device :-/.

I see Route 66 finally made it to Android Market.

f-1024-1

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.route66.maps5 for a free 30 Day trail

I had it for free with the maps on HTC Desire HD when I bought the phone, and it was ok back then, now I just find it dated. Or maybe its because Sygic spoiled me.
