Google Maps now warns drivers about traffic jams

Some of it, yes but Google actually tracks the number of Android smartphones making the exact same trek via the cell network or GPS. If a lot of phones are standing still on one spot for instance, then it interprets that as slow moving traffic.

This is an awesome feature - I hope I don't need it on my airport run tomorrow night.

I've enjoyed Waze for years now and it's been awesome. The 3CPO voice was pretty cool.

I've already hit the ignore a few times and everytime regretted it greatly.

I'll be obeying my overseers from now on.

The thing is Maps is dependant on the input from Waze users as this is where all the data is being gathered from.

Only some of the data. They also gather from traffic management services such as the Western Cape Traffic management Centre's feeds. Those systems monitor the freeways via a network of CCTV camera's.

Gauteng and KZN have a similar system.

Just took a little drive. Each turn I was told...turn left , wrong, turn right. Each of 6 turns was like this yet surprisingly at my destination she told me I had arrived.
Going back home was perfect:eek:
