Google Maps vs Waze?

I like Google Maps cos of how it remembers what I've searched across my different devices.
So if I'm at home and search for a place on my PC, when I jump in the car and open it up on my phone it shows that last location in my history.
Maybe other apps can do that, never really tried.

It is not the app particularly but the synch across devices functionality that comes with Google. Of course you have to allow this to happen or opt out if you do not want it. And it comes at a cost on background data activity that you may not be aware of.
Also, you may be a bit unhappy about just how "stuff" google collects about you and stores away on their servers.

That's the one. I typed in Hilton, and it wasn't on the list at all, and I scrolled all 25 entries. I appreciate the tip, but I like software and websites to work without needing a tip. I can live with it being more tedious without the tip, but if it plain doesn't work without the tip, I'm not likely to try too often.

Yes, It's still that slow. It was earlier in the week when I first tried it, it was earlier today and it still is now. I type a town name and it takes about four seconds to start showing the list of possible matches. Google maps is under a second.
I agree Colin, the website needs more ergonomics work, but TomTom's fundamentals are solid. When you manage to clear out some space on your phone, give the TomTom Go app a spin ... even if you don't use it for navigation, its display of live traffic conditions in the area is really impressive (and I have it on good authority that TomTom's sources of live traffic data are better than Google's locally).

PS: Pro-tip, if you're struggling to find or share locations in remote areas, just generate a mapcode here. Mapcodes are accepted by the TomTom website and all TomTom devices (for only 7 characters you get the accuracy of GPS coordinates even if you're going completely off-road).

Waze.. it works well in jhb/Pta because there a large enough user base. When I try it in Cpt I get mixed results..

Lots of things I like about Waze from alerts on speed, traffic, cops etc to routing. Wrt routing thru random places.. I enjoy this occasionally and when it does, it's usually to avoid a major traffic jam.. once i went south Sandton to home.. using Waze and going thru random roads the trip was 45 min faster than one gf took because she used her normal gps route.

Wrt tough intersections.. totally agree with this, the incidence of asking to make a hard turn is higher due to the nature of taking best route but this can be marked in map editor post fact. Some will complain about this but really what do u expect with dynamic routing.

On your PC you can also "send to device" and send the location to any of your Google linked devices.
Then on the device, the location will be available for selection from your notifications list. Just select and go.

I wish Waze would do that between my phone and head unit (after all, I'm logged into Waze on both), and would let me add favourite on my computer.
