Unlike the insurance fraud criminal that tried to murder his wife, I suspect that terrorists would know better than to be logged-in while browsing for whatever it is they browse for.

It's not just Google searches that Google's Web History records, it is all your browsing - I think if you have the Google Toolbar installed in whatever browser you're using, but the point is that this info is linked to a Google account, and if you're not logged into your Google account, then your browsing will not be recorded in Google's Web History for your account.
 
yah i saw that, i thin it was done a few months ago to 'improve service' so ur search history is available remotely. I've used this fact a bit.. but i don't like it. its like big brother
 
Google could become "The All Seeing Eye", but they need access to global RFID tracking, VISA/MasterCard data access, and video surveillance to make it a full house. A few acquisitions here and there can make it possible I guess.

One of the points that the research advocates which I don't agree with is that Google forcefully 'feeds' us content via the results it returns. Google doesn't generate the content, it uses it. Ever since I've started using Google, it has only been for one thing and that is its ability to indiscriminately return relevant results to my searches, without being drawn to shopping links half of the time. I do not believe the idea of webmasters paying Google to have their sites be the first to pop up in search results (not taking into account the Sponsored Links) is true.

As for collecting information and using it, my personal feeling is that Google primarily uses it to bring more relevant search results to its users. Yes one might argue that that's the face they put on this gathering of personal information, while in the background selling it to the big spam factories of the web. But I think this theory is a load of bollocks, I do not see Google as making money off 'selling' information, but rather off 'using' this information. They'll show ads relevant to a site visitor 'using' this information.

If anyone is stupid enough to advertise their personal information publicly on the web, then they shouldn't blame Google for capturing it and using it. If they're not happy with it, then they shouldn't be exposing themselves in the first place. I don't see how Google can be infringing on privacy just by consuming information that is already publicly available. The day Google starts returning Facebook entries, or any other social-networking site for that matter, then I'll start pointing fingers about privacy. And as for using GMail information, I'll believe these conspiracy theories once I see one of my own emails being published on some random site.

And Wikipedia? They were quick to point to an allegiance between the two, but didn't they think that *maybe* the Wikipedia page rankings are high because a lot of sites link to them? Plus, even if there was one such evil union, what is Google's benefit in making Wikipedia pages more relevant? :confused: More money? How?

Lastly, my general rule is, if you're not happy with it, then stop using it :)
 
Its not Google Search that I fear... its google analysis which tracks your IP whenever you do anything online. It's gmail that knows who you're talking too and what about. It's Google News that knows what you read. Its YouTube/Google Video that knows what you watch. It's MySpace/Facebook that knows EVERYTHING about you. Google owns, and I'm scared.

If only I could show you the power of Google Analysis... phuck! Don't Forget Google Earth... and of course Mobile. damnit everything Google.

Google = Big Brother.
 
if you don't like the idea don't do it, and if you stupid enough to include your real info online it's public domain then,so don't cry/blame other people but rather your self.
