Hi All

I have a weird problem on one of the machines at the office here. Google was working and then just stopped working. on all the other machines google works but this one machines.

I have tried flushing DNS but does not work have tried using google dns servers and also tried IS news servers and does not work. I have restarted the machine like 10 times but also does not work.

I have tried assigning a static IP Address but it does not work. can load every other site but google. and he uses google alot for his job. Please help here guys. Have even cleared his cache and history and tried FF and IE8 and both do not work. it is the weirdest problem ever. when You try ping google.co.za it discovers it and returns the IP but it times out and machine connected to same switch can ping it

Yip, I agree with bees, try the Malwarebytes (http://www.malwarebytes.org/) option. Also, if it is a Windows workstation, check that the hosts file hasn't been changed (c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts). A standard file will only have reference to 127.0.0.1 - Localhost.

Damn. Some random ideas:

Grab TCPView & see if its creating a connection at all.

http://www.google.co.uk/

Double check windows firewall.

Try a non-SA google IP.

He tried the IP, so its not host file/dns related.

Hmmm, how do we know that the address that is being returned for google.co.za is indeed the correct one. If an entry has been added in the hosts file, it could be anything. In order to rule this one out, the IP being returned from the Ping on both the workstations needs to be compared. If they are indeed the same, then I will agree that it isn't necessarily host file/DNS related...

Ask your sysadmins to stop messing around with him.

Also, what kind of job needs google to function? Surely you should know what you're doing before you do it?

Can you ping google?
