I dont think so? Anyway Nortel did not make Android phones, unlike Motorola. oddly all the other CEO's from Sony, LG and HTC is welcoming this move, makes me think it was planned.

Guess this is what happens when your CEO threatens to sue the other OEM's. I was wondering what the OHA would do if Motorola stooped that low, guess now we know.

Cos RIM is run by Mike Lazaridis and he would never allow it, he will be the downfall of RIM. Plus I think it would require a lot more work to move blackberry over to android whereas motorola already runs it.

They where not part of the Nortel lot, but this acquisition is about patents. That's why the other ceo's are welcoming it, it strengthens Androids position and thwarts the MS/Apple attempts to strangle it.
 
There is something really messed up with this patent thing. Surely it shouldn't hold with technology as fast evolving as this. This patent system will just keep us from progressing if implemented like that.

Agreed, I can see why Google did this, but at the end I must admit its a really sad day that they joined the war.

Its all good if you join one of the patent holder groups but when you want to start off with something new and better you will be killed the moment any of the gaints notice you.
 
I guess we'll just have to wait and see. but I think all Android motorola owners are going to be pretty happy about it. I know I am! :D
 
What I guess is going to happen.

Motorola Mobile will continue to function as a separate entity, making phones but will probably bring out the nexus/xooms of the Android world ie: test platforms for the OS.
Google will probably shift the patent portfolio to be under their direct control, or set up a joined group with all the members of the OHA. This joined group will mainly consist of lawyers that use the patent files and beat off any law suites aimed at Android or any of the OHA members.

Well this depends if the DOJ approves the move.

I think they been in the war the whole time, they dont have much choice. Its either rent the patents or own them. Personally I would rather see the patents in Google's hands than anyone else's.
 
Apple, with its mountain of cash will react, that I am sure of. Buy RIM and Samsung Mobile to outdo Google ... LOL!
 
im guessing this means the next nexus will be made by motorola? Hopefully released soon
 
This was all part of the plot from the beginning of the patent war..! :twisted:

I'm not too qualified to comment, but it seems that the 12.5 Billion they're paying for Motorola is an absolute steal vs. the 4.5 Billion which Apple etc. paid for the Nortel patents.

Please correct my over-eager analysis.
