I wanted to start thing thread so people can share what they use Google now for.

I believe Google now is one of the most powerful tools on android, and people just don't utilize it.

here is what I use Google now for:
I have my cards set up in such a way that I get tragic reports at 3:45 pointing out how long it will take me to get home.
the moment i leave work or home, Google now creates a post to Google plus shared only with my beloved, so she can see when I left, in case i forget to let her know (I am on a bike)
I have my sports teams set up so I know when who is playing and what the score is, recently Google added South African cricket and super 15 Rugby to the list of teams, so that is quite handy.
I have all the stocks I have investments in flagged so i see updates on that if I open now.
because my Chrome is synced between my laptop and my phone, new content on my most visited pages gets highlighted. this includes web comics and article based sites.
Obviously the weather is included, this has freed up home screen space as I no longer need a weather widget.

also I use voice search as my default internet search on my phone.
when I need to set an alarm or a reminder I use the voice commands.

that is what I use now for, is anyone in South Africa using Google Now for anything else? a function i missed somewhere? have you had any issues with Google Now?

I disable mine. Otherwise my face will be glued to the screen whole day.

I don't understand the logic?

now gets better the more you use it, learns from what you dismiss and what you do, adapts and changes as you do, disabling it it sort of like saying "I could drive a car, but i would drive all the time, I would rather ride a horse, that way I wont ride a horse all day"

How about using it to add some paragraphs, spell checking etc.. to what you type?

Just joking but it was a bit difficult to read. Not using Google Now but will look into it a bit more.

I have been really keen to use google now more often but it seems very limited. I get sports updates for the stormers. how do you set time based notifications? I can only set it to show all the time or switch it off ie. the traffic notifications?

I just use it for driving. Couldn't get the stormers score so far yet.

honestly I have no idea how or why mine went time based, I never told it to go off at 3:45, it just did. maybe its because I have a very strong routine.
i leave at 6:15 and 16:00 at 6:00 I get the traffic as a notification in the drop down, only during the week. at 15:45 I get one if I am at work. however if I am at home I do not get the notification.

honestly I have been using Google Now since my S2, so for about 2 and a half years now.

Google Now has become rather informative as of late, especially when it pops up with related articles to stuff I previously read.

Right now, it has provided me with an article on iOS 7 stability, when last night I was busy reading an article on the design flaws inherent to iOS 7.

But on a more personal level- it displays the scores of my supported football team, weather and traffic of my location, and my reminders. After the initial disappointment of using it, it has come on in leaps and bounds.

From what I can tell local teams was added over the weekend.
I never set up SA cricket because it was not available, I gave feedback and mentioned that SA cricket would be something I would like to see.
Saturday morning when i woke up in my drop down notifications the sad news was repeated, its one of the down sides to Google Now....
I went in to the cards, looked for the Sharks and found them and added them to my teams, that simple.

I had the stormers for a while, but it just never showed up. Just added the SA cricket team now before your post.

There is no springboks or SA rugby

I think Maverick Jester said it best.

it has come such a long way recently, I think in a few weeks, most likely before the next international game the Boks will be a team to follow.

I send the feedback about the Springboks now

How do you do the above?

I must say for me Now is fantastic! I hope it continues to improve! One of my favourite features is the location based reminders. For example, you can say "Next time I am at Woodlands shopping centre, remind me to buy some milk", and it does :)

This obviously requires GPS to be on all the time, right? What kind of battery life are you getting with using your device like this?

on my S4 I get about 12 to 14 hours.
GPS is always on, because of Google now, it was not always worth it, but it has become needed.

I charge full at night, and once it is full I kill wifi, mobile data and screen brightness, I use about 2% over night like that.
when I wake up everything goes back on other than wifi.
at work I don't have wifi, and depending on the amount of games I play while smoking depends on bat life when I leave the office. right now its 13:47 and I am on 63% so I have not smoked a lot :)

I love how it learns your habits, after a few weeks it would, on time, give me traffic to go to Century City for 5s football. Pretty cool. I don't have my GPS on all the time, i actually one have it on for navigation but Google Now still manages to get location data from the cell towers (less accurate but still useful) [Note 3]
