Google is our natural ally against the Vodacom/MTN/Vansie/Altech/Telkom/Icasa cabal. Google wants the bandwidth to be free which MTN obviously don't.

"...Nearly everything the company does, including building big data centers, buying optical fiber, promoting free Wi-Fi access, fighting copyright restrictions, supporting open source software, launching browsers and satellites, and giving away all sorts of Web services and data, is aimed at reducing the cost and expanding the scope of Internet use. Google wants information to be free because as the cost of information falls it makes more money...."

You live in a deluded world wify...

VC/MTN/Vansie/Altech/Telkom/Icasa are not a cabal.... and Google is not necessarily our natural ally, they're a company and could very well do precisely what everyone else does in SA if they were to become an ISP here.

Agreed - only not in the way you are saying. They do support free information - but they have those massive datacentres which capture your information on a daily level - and the accuracy they can model your behaviour to is frankly quite spooky. Lets not talk about their prices (which they would keep artificially low until such time as bandwidth does become a commodity - and it is an ever growing one) but rather about the power that they have due to this altruistic "current" attitude of theirs and the types of GO's and Corps they are being targetted/wooed by everyday...
