Google Photos

Maybe it’s easier to have nothing to do with iCloud?

Any photo taken on iPhone, just backs up to Google Photos? No syncing or anything?

I think what I tried to do was to use both iCloud & Google Photos at the same time .

So if I recall, I created the albums in Google Photos and and then somehow synced them to iOS or iCloud ... and then it seems to have uploaded them again. I dunno.

But it something to that affect and I'm just trying to get everything normal now

The two aren’t aware of each other’s albums so it can’t be that.

Maybe you edited the one and therefore it reuploads it as it’s byte different and would explain the size difference too.

Certainly an option.

I prefer to use both as they have different features I use.

It's not ideal, if I had the funds to blow on cloud space I'd probably pay for it.
But the broke man's hack is; you get 15gb free storage on an account without paying. So just create multiple Google accounts.
I have like 40 Google accounts, namebackup1@gmail
namebackup2@gmail
And so on...

Side note; I find it annoying that I don't have a perfect chronologically-named system. Some of my namebackup numbers were already in use.
This is the 'hack'? - an administrative nightmare!

Here's a stupid question on iOS :

Is everything in the Photos app, automatically on iCloud or the device - or is that something I choose somewere?

Easier to just sign up for Degoo at that point https://degoo.com/

How do you guys detect duplicate photos in Google Photos?

I have 2TB storage with Google Photos and I’ve set to original size backup.

Does this mean the photo below (17MB) should back up to 17MB? Why is it under 7MB?

I’ve also got a few photos that are duplicates and using the example below, all duplicates are 17 MB - but the backup varies between 3 and 7MB.

Sound right?
You get confused between pixels (MP) and data (MB).

A sure-fire way to quickly run out of Google Photos storage is to have it shared with a Google Family-member who's had a new baby.
Or if your woman allows you to take videos of the deplorable things she lets you do to her in the bedroom

Back in the day, I just uploaded to facebook and then blocked everyone from viewing the photos.

oh now I recall why I wanted to sync - it was to get albums etc on Apple TV

I've also got a slideshow / AI app that you upload photos ... from Photos. You can't select a source. The same as some of other apps
