Really stoked if Google and Samsung keeps their promise.

To be honest, I don’t really care about feature updates these days (as long as they’re reasonable, Apple locking out older iPhones and iPads from seeing battery cycles and limiting 80% charge not being one of them for example), but providing a good amount of security updates in the tail end of a device’s lifespan would be great, which Apple can currently do for 6-10 years.

To be fair, this sentence is more a favourable argument for opening bootloaders when support ends at the least, because PC hardware has some of the worst official support timeframes in the industry, sometimes as laughably bad as 6 months, but we can continue on with third party support and firmware + OS + software updates thankfully.

I'm just trying to understand if they're Apple updates where they have multiple versions with different features pushed to every device. So, like, I could run Android 15 on my Samsung Galaxy S3 and just strip out the features

I chatted to someone that had the same mindset ... he hated Spotify because they're only a middleman in th chain, but he loved Apple Music because ... Apple. He couldn't explain it either. It was like some kind of mind control

But on a serious note - do you think that maybe because it's highlight on the iPhone, that it could be more of an issue?
Like every article mentions about the updates? People chant the same thing 'old iPhone ; new updates!' ?

No I don't mind it because everyone does it. My Philips electric toothbrush didn't come with a charging travel case but just a dumb plastic one. Again I didn't get the charging glass but a cheap plastic one. Likewise my Siemens coffee machine didn't come with a cup warmer even though they show pictures of it on the box. I could go on and on.

Technically, there shouldn't be anything wrong?

Obviously, if I go in and lie about Apple that isn't cool - but I've only ever been objective with them.
