I got a site up yesterday. It’s very basic just some info regarding my Wife's private practice.

When I do a Google search it doesn't find the site. Am I in too big of a hurry or what should I do to get it on Google?

I know there is AdSense and AdWords. Which one should I use?

Sorry for the stupid question, I am a bit of a noob at this still.:(

I think you might need to provide more info on the site to get better answers.

It takes a lot longer than 1 day for a site to show up in a google search.

Do the add url thing. Then sign up for google webmaster tools, add the site, verify it, create a sitemap and add it, etc. These will go a long way to getting it to show up. Might also want to google "seo" and read a bit.

Adwords = You want to pay google to put your ads on sites running adsense and on google itself. You set an amount you are willing to pay per click and your budget basically. So if you budget is R10/day and you are willing to pay up to 50c per click google will try get 20 people to click on your ad per day.

Adsense more suitable for a highly trafficked site. You put google ads on your site and when your visitors click on them you earn money.

Looks good.

I'd lose the hit counter at the bottom right...not appropriate for a professional site and colour is wrong.

Also, its kinda customary that clicking on the logo @ top left of the page takes you to the home page.

Ok.. Will try to get that past my wife... And will work on the Logo-> Homepage.

Does anyone have "rendering" problems that the page doesn't render correctly? I tested in IE8 and FF 3.6.13 and it looks fine.
Reason asking is I have a friend that said that some of the pages looks crooked on IE7 and FF 3.6.12, or is he smoking his socks?

Thanks for everyone help

A few pointers though

Lose the hits counter definitely

Create a blog section this works really well

And google business directories in south africa and list on them this is very good traffic and will help your site to list faster in Google as well and best of all its free

Agreed meta's are not used by Google anymore dont even bother with this

I would still put them in, as some search engines still use them. Not everyone uses Google to find your site. So add them in, its good web practice.

I don't know of any search engines that still index on meta keywords. The last I knew of was AltaVista... and they dropped indexing on keywords in 2002. There really is no point. You're just increasing page size. Google may sometimes display the description tag content in it's search results, but prefers to display page content. Even if it is displayed, it is still excluded from indexing.
