Google rejects US request to remove offensive video

The only reason it should be removed is because it is an utter piece of crap. :D
But then they might as well remove 90% of Youtube!

Youtube:

Posting a video that gets a lot of innocent people killed, is perfectly okay.
Posting a video of you air guitaring to your favorite band, it gets removed instantly due to copyright.

PS I do actually support freedom of speech, just pointing out the stark contrast on youtube.

That's probably because there's laws against copyright infringement, but not blasphemy :)

You can say what you want as long as it doesn't break the law.

This is the Streisand effect times 1 million.

I would never have seen the dam thing if it wasn't for all the people complaining about it/trying to get it removed. When will people ever learn, in the internet age, trying to ban/remove will just make sure the opposite happens.

Oh and I want my 15 min's back, was a total time waste.

That's a false analogy. Problem isn't blasphemy per se but reaction to perceived blasphemy. The reactions then effect third parties, and not Google, poster of the video who is safe in the US or the complainants.

However, Google does say something about this too:

We encourage free speech and defend everyone's right to express unpopular points of view. But we don't permit hate speech (speech which attacks or demeans a group based on race or ethnic origin, religion, disability, gender, age, veteran status, and sexual orientation/gender identity).

Don't try to look for loopholes or try to lawyer your way around them—just understand them and try to respect the spirit in which they were created.

Seems to me that they could remove this video pretty easily. If only, to help prevent attacks on non-Muslims in Muslim dominated regions of the world, i.e. at people who are innocent by people who get emotionally caught up in this or by organisations who are taking advantage of this. But of course ads sell money and it's cool to be ideological when someone else bleeds.

After all the spirit of the community is to build friendships and share views, not incite violence, whether we feel the violence is justified or not is irrelevant here.

Then it's not free speech isn't it? After all if a government passes a law that says you can't insult the president, it will no longer be free speech to comment on his performance.

You don't think it should be removed because it endangers certain people?

Just watched the video. I can't believe this is the video that has caused such an uproar?? Seriously!?
