Google removes Uber bookings from Maps

Users are no longer able to book Uber rides from in the Google Maps app, Android Police reported.

Previously, Android users with Google Maps installed and an active Uber account could see price estimates for Uber rides and book trips directly through the Maps interface.

probably, maybe google going to release and back their own ride sharing app?

Or maybe its more of a case that Google and Uber have a very strained relationship... plus Google Maps supports about 17 different ride sharing apps, but only Uber had the functionality to book straight from Maps....

Yes Waymo may launch a different type of ride sharing type solution with their autonomous vehicles, but that is a decade away at least more than likely.

Google kind of offered the following explanation:

The Irish Examiner

In a statement, the technology giant said the move was part of a constant process of testing done on the Maps app.
“We’re always experimenting with new features for Google Maps,” a Google spokesman said.

“Based on feedback, we determine whether these changes roll out permanently.”

The stance suggests the feature is unlikely to return at any point soon.

Mashable

"We’re always experimenting with new features for Google Maps. Based on feedback, we determine whether these changes roll out permanently," a Google spokesperson told Mashable.

Uber didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

To be clear, Uber integration hasn't been wiped out from the Google Maps apps. You can still get an estimate on how much an Uber ride will cost and how long it'll take for you to get to a location. But if you want to complete the booking, you'll now have to open the Uber app.

or maybe google doesn't want to back any one provider, maybe what they want to do is provide competition to others,

so maybe they want to create a different platform where one can select what provider to use, like locally they might use taxify,
while in the US use lyft as an example.

More like end of this year plus they've ordered another 60 000 minivans just last month again.

For launch MAYBE...

For general availability to rival Ubers reach, decade at least...

(I should have been clearer about what I meant, apologies)
