YouTube Go is shutting down

Google is killing YouTube Go, a lightweight version of its popular video-sharing app for low-end smartphones.

First launched in 2016, YouTube Go formed part of an array of Google "Go" apps, stripped-down versions of their main apps that consume less data and can stay connected in areas with bad cellular signal.

I can see why they would want to terminate the app. It was a stop-gap solution. Google's data-saving mechanism shares the same story.

The actual Youtube app has gone from bad to worse. I get that they were trying to make certain functions easier to understand for the average user, but in doing so, they've gone backwards.

My biggest, but no my only, peave is with quality settings. Before you just had "Auto" and a selection for a specific resolution i.e 720p, 1080p, etc which I would always use. Now specifying a specific resolution is an "Advanced Feature" which adds an extra step every time you want to set one.

Huh?

I despise the app. The bleedin ads were driving me nuts. The same one playing over and over. Installed Firefox mobile and use the website. Now I have ad blocking.

YouTube Go came Pre installed in my Huawei Y5 lite. I still use it time to time as the main YouTube app keeps on crashing especially lately.
