Greetings,

I bought a BB 9780 last night, activated my BIS, set up my email and FB and all those nice things, but when it came to Google Talk, when I try and sign in, it gives me a message saying "Service not Enabled for this Handheld". I've been trying since last nice to get it going, but it just gives me that message. Everything else works good, BB App world, FB, my email(been getting mail on the phone all morning long), all working fine, but just Google Talk.

Is there a setting on my phone that I need to look at, or on my actual Gmail account with regards to chat and that sort?

Please help, as this beauty of a phone couldn't be any better, it's just missing Google Talk. However, I could download Nimbuzz, and WhatsApp, but those are third party IM's, and I prefer to use what RIM have given us.

Oh yes, I'm on Vodacom, Prepaid, with a monthly subscription to BIS.

Regards,
Craig K

Craig, the solution to this particular issue isn't a fun one,but due to ineptitude of Vodacom's BB support it's the only viable way I've found

You need a backup of service books from a BB ( not sure if model matters,I suspect it would though ) that is able to use all the services, restored to your phone. Redownloading won't work unfortunately :)

I had a similar issue with GF's 8520 Curve, exact same phone as mine but would NOT do Gtalk no matter what, after days on the phone with BB support and scouring the net I made a last-ditch effort and backed up my working phone service books, and restored it to hers - presto it worked

Thanks for the speedy reply. I guess I'll have to do that, I'll have to see though, if I'm actually going to use it. Nimbuzz seems like a better option for me....

Ok, so I've tried the "Security Wipe", and gave the phone a complete wipe. It kicked out everything, all my settings, but that wasn't a problem because I didn't put in too much settings to begin with....

Google Talk still doesn't work! It still Says "Service not enabled for this handheld".... Internet works, Gmail is setup, Whatsapp works, so there is no reason why it should still give issues.....

Any ideas please?

I gave the solution,it didn't include a wipe?

Oh, I thought that by restoring, you meant I should wipe it..... Sorry for sounding doff, this is my first BB, so this is all new to me.... I think I'll have to google it, and see how to restore the phone....

Backup a 9780 that can Googletalk to your PC ( Select only the service books )
Then restore said backup to your 9780

*Then remove the extra restored bits like mail settings that you shouldn't have that's included in the backup
