Now that Telkom are trying their best to block Skype, Despite it being legalised, has any body tried Google talk?

I installed it the other day, but don't know of anybody out there to test it with :)

Edit: should be Google Talk not voice, but I can't edit the header :(

I have the same problem wih Google Voice. Not a lot of people using it, I guess. I don't know of anyone personally who has it.

Every one I know seems to use Skype. I am still hearing unsubstantiated rumours that Telkom is testing software to do shaping based on packet headers. What their intentions are once they have it implemented is anyones guess. I would imagine that deprioritising VoIP traffic will be an obvious choice, they will probably categorise it as abuse

I've used google talk - it connects much quicker than skype and to me the quality seems better, although with IS I did have a bit of a lag. I tried it over 56k dial up and that worked absolutely great too.

I wish Telkom wouldn't waste there time trying to shape based on packet headers - the whole shaping thing has got to go and hopefully if the pressure starts mounting on Telkom (with the SNO, and other players - we can hope right?) - they will eventually be forced to actually give people the 3GB (or whatever) they are paying for to use fully as they please!
