Hello Everybody
Does anybody know how the new http://www.google.com/talk/
will work in SA???

In addition I do not see any hardware requirements. So I dont get it!!. Or do you have to use a hadset mic connected to your PC/Mac via usb.

Does anybody know?

Thanks

Vegis

After some investigation It looks af if you can only call people whom are online at the time, whom has a gmail acc and whom has dowloaded the software. Plus of course they need to have a headset or outher divece to talk and hair the other person

Sounds like this is not good for work, but more for friends !!!

on the site, under help it states the requirements...

What system requirements do I need to download and use Google Talk?

To use Google Talk, the first thing you'll need is a Gmail account. Make sure you're using Windows 2000, Windows XP (Home & Pro), or Windows Server 2003. You'll also need a minimum 56k dial-up connection, but we recommend a broadband connection for the best experience.
To make voice calls, you'll need access to a microphone and speakers (we recommend using a headset for optimal voice quality).

Mac and Linux users can use other IM clients to connect to the Google Talk service. The Google Talk client isn't compatible with Macintosh or Linux systems at this time, but we look forward to offering support for more operating systems in the future.

but yeah i agree it seems more like a fun toy than anything serious, Skype still the best.

Google Talk / Skype system requirements

Hello,

I wonder whether Google Talk or Skype will run on a Pentium II 266Mhz laptop with 160MB RAM. (There has to be running a usb-wpa-wlan-adapter in the background.) (Skype names higher system requirements on the web page)
A friend of mine wants to buy a laptop with these specifications.
There is a (considerably more expensive) laptop with 400Mhz and 128 MB.

Do you have any experience whether I might have a chance that Skype or Google Talk runs on either of the named laptops?

Very many thanks,
Jack

Oh, I forgot that I saw, win2k and office 2k3 running very smooth on the system. (so the os requirements are fulfilled)

If anyone wants a gmail account to try it out pm me - the quality is great and seems to use very little bandwith, so it's great for pc - pc

Mhz?

Hi kilps,

thanks for your answer. The bandwidth shouldn't be the problem with DSL everywhere.
However, I'm unsure about the CPU requirements.
What kind of CPU do you have?
Have you ever heard someone using a 400Mhz CPU (or maybe even less) do use Skype or Google Talk?

Very many thanks,
Jack

The problem is that the laptop I want to use skype or google talk is still to be bought and I won't have an internet connection in the shop to try it, even if I were allowed to install it.

I use both - but I prefer the simple interface of Google Talk, exept I do want to see confrence and file transfere facilities ...

I see MSN and Yahoo users will be able to chat to each other - I wonder how long until Google joins them ... :p

My sister uses Skype on a Pentium II 350 MHz and it works fine, although there are nut much ressources left... working while talking is rather slow.

GTalkPhone for Google Talk

Hi, why don't you try to use GTalk Phone (www.gtalkphone.com). Its a service that works well with Google Talk. You can make PC to Phone calls and vice versa! Let me know how it goes. Cheers!
