Google to join SOPA protests

Wikipedia is actually putting their money where their mouth is and doing a blackout.
Google are just adding a link, and hoping to get some of the glory.
Heaven forbid they actually do something that effects the bottom like wikipedia did

Wikipedia can afford to black out because they are not dependant on ad revenue to survive.

Google will survive blacking out for 24 hours.

I don't think they should, as they have a responsibility to their shareholders.
I just dislike their fake, trying to get on the bandwagon with wikipedia, while refusing to actually put their balls on the line. Its their typical routine to seem pious, but not in reality

And might I add, making money from advertisements while linking to pirated media

Google at least has a full page of support when clicking the link, what about Facebook? Twitter?

It would have been great to see them support something thats going to affect them highly. A post SOPA era of the internet is going to greatly affect how social the internet is. Death of social networks? wouldn't be far fetched, this affects sharing on another level. My company supports STOP SOPA & PIPA!

#Update: the SOPA bill has supposedly been indefinitely scrapped. PIPA still hangs over our heads like a guillotine though.

Per the Wikipedia page (link provided earlier):

Isn't SOPA dead? Wasn't the bill shelved, and didn't the White House declare that it won't sign anything that resembles the current bill?

No, neither SOPA nor PIPA are dead. On January 17th, SOPA's sponsor said the bill will be discussed in early February. There are signs PIPA may be debated on the Senate floor next week. Moreover, SOPA and PIPA are just indicators of a much broader problem. We are already seeing big media calling us names. In many jurisdictions around the world, we're seeing the development of legislation that prioritizes overly-broad copyright enforcement laws, laws promoted by power players, over the preservation of individual civil liberties. We want the Internet to be free and open, everywhere, for everyone.
