Google coming out of the closet in SA

Packet loss because my connection is pulling heavy traffic...

PS Google.com has been 1/2ms away on some TENET connections for around 3 months now...

mine still showing up as the 209... ip. im on IS. tried the ip and seems good. does this mean mail and everything will be moved (mirrored) to SA
What DNS server are you using? If you're using OpenDNS or Google DNS it won't work. You must use the IS primary and secondary dns servers: Autoassigned or 168.210.2.2 (Primary) / 196.14.239.2 (Secondary)

Whats the deal here? have IS decided to proxy google on their servers? or have google started to build their SA Data Center?

It's more of a mixture between those two. Two major South African ISP's (TENET and IS) have implemented local Google Global Cache servers onto their network. Whether or not Google pushed for it first, or these ISP's had to buy a license to operate, etc., we don't know.
Not all google-based content is currently flowing through these local mirrors yet, for example neither the www.youtube.com front page, nor gmail will run locally, unless you manually force the hostnames to resolve to one of IS/TENET's Google server IP's.

im using IS dynamic DNS and still showing up as 209... i have however interted it mauually into my router :)

At my office (on Mweb business uncapped) the Google hostnames still resolve to international IP addresses...

We've now simply forced the following hostnames to the local Google IP address and it seems to work fine so far:
My google searching & gmail are working, although I couldn't get gtalk (talk.google.com, talk.l.google.com, talkx.l.google.com) to work on the local IP addres :(
