Google unveils Home Hub

Google unveiled its new Home Hub smart device at its MadeByGoogle 2018 hardware launch event this evening.

The Home Hub is powered by Google Assistant and is compatible with a number of platforms, including devices running Android, iOS, Mac, Windows, and Chrome OS.

Colour me horribly disappointed...

Google are losing the Home Assistant race very damn quickly at this point if you ask me.. there hardware is starting to feel very subpar in comparison to Amazons.

Their Google Home was much better than Alexa (hardware wise). I think Amazon have only just released something which looks good and decent sound.

Amazons microphone array in the Echo has always blown Googles out of the water... but yes The Home looked better, and the software is still arguably MUCH better.. but with the rate Amazon are releasing products and such, Google are falling behind very quickly in my opinion.

Wonder what the speaker is like compared to the Home. If it'd the same or better - I want one for the kitchen.

Not sure what this means - but the devices are available here on the grey market - but most of the functionality works.

Things that don't work for me : Calling an Uber, making calls or sending messages, ordering food.

yeah i put that badly. but yes it was about whether it is possible to actually use the functionality here in south africa

In that case - yes - I have two mini's and one home.

The hub will be perfect addition for the kitchen

Very much so....

I have a Google Home and Chromecasts, and am contemplating expanding it with a few minis and MAYBE a Home Hub...

BUT, Amazon have come on leaps and bounds with their hardware in the last "refresh"... and I do think Google are now trailing on that front quite significantly.
