Does anyone know of some GoPro alternatives?

I know a lot of manufacturers claim to be an alternative, but who knows what the quality is like.

I have a GoPro Hero 4, and i love it to bits.

I would like to get my son an action cam as well, but there is no way in hell i am paying 7k for him.

I've also asked that question many times before. But the harsh reality is, that there aren't any alternatives. Because as soon as the cam gets half decent you start getting into the price range of GoPros. The biggest problem I've ran into is finding something with even remotely the same battery life.

What stuff did you record so far?

Drift... Look at the Stealth if you want to save a little cash. The Ghost if it's not an issue.

Nope. Get him a 2nd hand one. A lot of people use them once and sell for half price...

Give him the Hero 4 and get yourself a new one :)

SJ4000 is the entry level gopro alternative. It really is worth buying something a bit better. SJCAM SJ5000 uses a panasonic 14 megapixel cmos sensor vs SJ4000's 3 megapixel fongkong ar330 sensor. If you need a higher framerate video then X6000 is brilliant value for money at around R2200. 1080P/60fps.

A second hand GoPro, srs answer.

I picked up my Hero 4 silver in immaculate condition with a bunch of accessories in warranty for less than R4,500 (off of Gumtree nogal), that's probably the best bet.

The entry level GoPro is a rip off. It uses an ambarella a5 chipset while quite a few gopro alternatives use a newer gen ambarella a7 or better spec'd novatek chipset.

Alibaba has a lot of go pro alternatives just not sure about the import costs
